How to Achieve Everything in Good TimeZoran
The most common question in my inbox, especially in the last month is – how do you do it, achieve everything in good time, what „do you take“…
This is true especially lately because behind me is the most intense period of travel – in 8 days I have been to 4 states, 6 cities, before that and after that some shorter trips, and the reason is the rapid growth and expansion of Business Café.
A dear friend who fulfilled her dream a year ago and enrolled in acting lessons had the other day her first show. She did not even invite me because she says she does not consider me living in Zagreb anymore. My partner recently sent me roses by delivery, and a Facebook commentary that made me laugh the most was from a friend who said that the strangest thing is that the delivery guy found me at home! It is also funny when people in Zagreb meet me, they give me their business cards and say: once you are in Zagreb, let’s have a coffee. In the eyes of the others, I more less always had “accelerated pace”.
This is it, there are no reruns
Yes, I do live in an “accelerated mode”, and no, in my case that does not mean that I have not time to stop and smell the roses. I surely do, everyone who knows me, knows that the quality of life, to enjoy life and hedonism are my priorities. Why? The assumption from which I start is that this is it, we only live once and we never know how much time we have so I live each day to the fullest as if it were the last.
I don’t want to be one of those who regret something.According to that, I “plan” my day. In my day the focus is on what I like, what makes me happy, and what I really want to do now.
General cleaning and inventory
When I am stuck in life first I do the general cleaning – I literally throw away half of my apartment. The main criterion is to throw away whatever does not make me happy anymore, whatever is broken, dirty, or has not been in use for more than 6 months… And then I make an INVENTORY OF THE SMALLEST STUPIDEST LITTLE THINGS, a list of what “needs to be done, must be done, it would be ok to do it”. Believe me the leftovers in our lives consume our energy.
Then I divide that list in three columns – what makes me happy, what doesn’t make me happy, and what neither makes me happy nor doesn’t make me happy. At the end, I reduce that to two columns – what makes me happy and what doesn’t make me happy.
I must, I need, I want and I love
Then it’s time for the second phase of the inventory cleaning – whether something is necessary to be done or not. If it is not necessary, great, then I give it up. Here I realize that not every idea is to be realized through me, that for some things the time is just not right, that something simply does not make sense, it is not profitable… etc.
If something needs to be done and it is necessary then I try to delegate. Judging by my own experience or the experience of others, we do not delegate or outsource enough. On my list remains what makes me happy, because as I said the other day at one of the Business cafés – what motivates me is happiness.
Practical tips and tricks
Now, hopefully those who read this blog will not remain disappointed by not discovering a new technique.
I do not use some “wow” tool or application; I just get up at 5 o’clock in the morning. Time from 5 till 7 am is for me, to work on myself, time to be with my partner, time for a healthy breakfast, etc.
During the day I stick to the principle less is more, what is crucial to be done in this moment and I focus on those few things.
Of course, I also have periods when I am delayed, and I still answer personally every e-mail and every message.
I immediately answer to the media and leave everything for them. The same is with people who are around me. For me people and relationships are important, and not transactions. My motto is – it is more important what kind of people we become in entrepreneurship than how much we earn.
On my trips, I take time to answer all e-mails and take care of all delays, at the same time I do not neglect socializing with people I meet there.
At the events and conferences I prepare myself in advance to see who other lecturers are so that I would definitely listen and try to meet those that are interesting to me. I focus on the less is more here as well because we cannot meet everyone, but we can meet 3-4 crucial people.
I regularly do the follow up, I meet up to 100 people every 7 days and it is important to do everything in time.
I cannot stress enough how important it is with WHOM we spend our time and HOW – without criticizing, complaining… And of course, I always have time for friends.
I have a 7.5-year-old son. In his upbringing I focus to make him BE INDEPENDENT and to teach him HOW TO BE HAPPY. Mornings we repeat together the affirmations – I am worth, I deserve, I am enough… Evenings we talk about what we are thankful for. I do not try to be a super mom, I give the opportunity and pleasure of spending time with him to his dad, his dad’s partner, my partner, grandmas, granddads, aunt… And we are all happier that way.
Managing time or energy
Any text on time management does not make sense without mentioning the management of energy…
Now, I will not write about going to sleep earlier, to eat healthy, and to exercise. All this certainly affects that we have more energy and therefore we can do more in less time, but from my experience nothing fulfils people with energy as when they live with a partner of their choice, do the job they want, live in a city they want…
Take vs. find time
And finally, the circumstances will never be ideal, we will always lack time, money… something… We all have the same 24 hours available. Just take time, do not wait until you will have (more) time – take time right now for what makes you happy… The best moment is now. And have a good time.
